As of May 2024, the Aquarium is no longer offering complimentary admission through the Shelf to Shore program. Anyone who receives SNAP benefits will still be eligible for the new Monterey Bay Aquarium program designed to increase access: Museums for All. The new program will not require a Library card for admission.
Why is the Shelf to Shore program ending?
Answer from the Monterey Bay Aquarium staff:
“The Aquarium is committed to ensuring that all people have access to the joy and wonders of the ocean that is not limited by geography. While Shelf to Shore provided complimentary access, it was limited to participating public libraries in Monterey County, Santa Cruz County, and San Benito County. In order to eliminate this barrier and create wider access, we’re transitioning away from Shelf to Shore and are launching a new affordable access program at the end of May 2024, called Museums for All.”
A partir de mayo, 2024, el Acuario no ofercerá entrada gratuita a través del programa Shelf to Shore. Cualquier persona que reciba beneficios SNAP seguirá siendo elegible para el nuevo programa del Monterey Bay Aquarium diseñado para aumenta el acceso llamado: Museums for All. Este nuevo programa no requiere la tarjeta de la biblioteca para la admisión.
