Please bring any devices you use, and have your necessary passwords and library card with you.

An Encompass Outreach worker will be available on a drop-in basis, 1:00 - 3:00 PM, in the Life Literacies Center at the Downtown Library for anyone with questions regarding connecting to social services, county mental health, addiction recovery options, housing applications, the Homeward Bound bus ticket program, obtaining a PO Box, clearing camping tickets, obtaining a fee-free DMV CA Identification application and more.

Aptos Writer’s Workshop is a place where writer’s meet to discuss, and provide suggestions for fiction and non-fiction work in a positive and supportive small group environment. It is designed to help members with their own work over time from an initial idea, through character/concept development, scene/chapter blocking to the finished piece. We are all at different places on our journey and it is okay. We will be meeting from 1-3 pm on the 2nd and 4th Monday’s of the month in the Community Room of the new Aptos Library.

The Santa Cruz Poetry Project facilitates poetry and writing workshops throughout Santa Cruz County. Our mission is to bring poetry to those who would not otherwise have access. We do this through our Poetry in the Jails project, which offers poetry workshops to incarcerated men and women. Our new workshop at the downtown library, offered in partnership with the Life Literacies Center, welcomes anyone who would like to establish a writing practice in a safe and encouraging environment.

Join us for this weekly peer support group for new parents facilitated by two local postpartum doulas. This program offers a welcoming space for new parents to learn from each other, make new friends, get breastfeeding and bottle feeding support, and access to helpful resources. Come in with your questions, concerns, or just for a safe place to meet other parents and create community. Bring your own blanket, snacks, toys, and please feel free to bring older siblings!

Come and play chess, one of the world’s oldest and most popular games, against other kids! One-hour meetings include 15 minutes of instruction by chess master Dana Mackenzie. For ages 6-18. We welcome all skill levels, but encourage beginners to at least learn the basic rules (how the pieces move) before coming the first time.
Note to parents: Chess is a great way for kids to build sportsmanship, concentration, and reasoning skills, while having a lot of fun!
