The Live Oak Library Annex (LOLA) is an extension of the resources that the Live Oak Branch Library provides to the Live Oak community. In collaboration with the Santa Cruz County Parks, LOLA primarily serves as a program space and quiet study area. It also provides access to study rooms and limited library services including a small collection of about 500 books for children and teens. The LOLA is located at the Simpkins Family Swim Center.
Questions, concerns, or comments about Simpkins Swim Center, LOLA study rooms, community room, or the plaza should be directed to Santa Cruz County Parks & Recreation at: (831) 454-7901 or parksinfo@parks.santacruzcountyca.gov.
The LOLA does not operate as a full library branch, therefore it is not fully staffed as a regular branch. Rather, an outreach team comes by each Wednesday and Friday, 2:00-4:00pm, to manage the collection, check in returns from the book drop and process holds. LOLA staff can offer assistance to patrons during these times. Staff from the Live Oak Branch Library, or other branches in the system may come on site to provide regularly scheduled programs in the program room (see Calendar below).
The LOLA has a small circulating collection of about 500 books, including bilingual books for children and teens, and Lucky Day books for adults. No media or nonfiction books are included. These may be used on site or checked out with the self-check station using your Santa Cruz Public Libraries Library Card. Patrons will soon have the option to select the Live Oak Library Annex as a holds pick-up location for books. Any materials that need to be checked out to patrons by staff members, such as items from the Library of Things, Lendable Tech or LINK+ items, cannot be requested for pickup at the LOLA.
There is a drive-up bookdrop located at the LOLA. Please note that this is not a 24-hour bookdrop as the Simpkins property is gated and closed overnight. While we will have staff clearing the book drop regularly, the process for clearing returned items from your library account will take longer because items are not processed from this book drop every day as they would be at a library branch.
LOLA features three study rooms that can be reserved at no charge. To reserve a study room, please contact Santa Cruz County Parks and Recreation directly at (831) 454-7901.
The Library provides programs in LOLA's Active Learning room; these programs are listed in the Library's calendar of events on the website.
