Spirituality of Aging

Thursday, April 3 (12:00 PM - 1:30 PM)
Location: Downtown

This class is an invitation to anyone who is on the path of aging and interested in reorienting
yourself from Hero to Elder, or from aging to Saging. The call of later-life can awaken in you a
yearning for something more, a longing to transcend a role, an identity, or a purpose and
connect with something larger. It can invite you to cross a threshold and trade the image of
youth for the depth of age, trade distraction for self-knowledge, reaction for reflection,
information for wisdom, and a tight grip for an open surrendered hand.

We will sit together, share conversation and exploration of aging. Please bring a journal, pen
and your vulnerability.

Please register for the entire six week series before the first class meeting.

***Note from Illana: please try to attend all six sessions as they build upon each other. If you can't make a session, please let Illana know in advance if possible.

Week One: What is Aging, It’s Treasures, Challenges and Obstacles
Week Two: Exploring your Inner Ageism and Shadow Work
Week Three: Exploration of Being vs Doing
Week Four: Forgiveness Practice
Week Five: Spiritual Assessment
Week Six: Leaving a Legacy

Location: Capitola
Room: Ow Family Community Room

Annelise Schinzinger's book, "The Art and Science of Caregiving: Stories of Inspiring Elders with an End of Life Guidebook"  is a valuable resource and guide. Annelise inspires and informs through her stories about elders, the Action Points for Caregivers that follow each story, and her thoughtful guidebook. Gain valuable insights on how to help someone live as fully as possible during the end-phase of life, while still enjoying what is available to them.

Join us as Annelise shares her inspiration for the book and the work she does. Copies of the book will be available for sale at the event.

About the Author:
Annelise Schinzinger reaches deeply into the heart and soul of what it is like to be present with someone on their dying journey. Through three decades as a caregiver and end-of-life doula, she has developed profound insights into supporting the elderly through their ultimate transition. Her intimate work offers rare glimpses into the spiritual journey of those crossing life's final threshold. Recognizing that the disorientation often accompanying end-of-life can be deeply distressing, Schinzinger has cultivated gentle techniques to help ground and reorient individuals during this vulnerable time. Her compassionate approach transforms what many fear into a more peaceful passage, allowing the possibility for sacred moments to emerge even amid life's closing hours.
