Description: | Mountain Community Resources (MCR) is a local family resource center that has been serving the San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley communities since 1982. We offer a network of programs and services designed to help people thrive. We work directly with individuals and families to build a strong community one person, one family, one neighborhood at a time. |
Mission: | The mission of Mountain Community Resources is to build a strong Valley community-one person, one family, one neighborhood at a time-by helping people to help themselves. |
Programs: | Community Advocacy: We seek to meet the needs of families through bi-lingual, bi-cultural support on both a long and short-term basis. Our drop-in advocacy support aims to help our community access resources and set goals to address issues such as housing, employment, education, domestic violence prevention, childcare and more. Food Distribution: We partner with Second Harvest Food Bank to provide free supplemental groceries and nutritional awareness to the community. Our food distributions are held every Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Anyone is welcome to attend. Parent Education: We offer a variety of parent education classes and one-on-one sessions, including classes that address a wide range of topics including preventing tantrums, traveling in the car, managing chores, the power of self-esteem, and more. Classes, workshops, seminars and individual sessions are available in both Spanish and English, funding for the program is made available by First 5 Santa Cruz County. Public Benefits Enrollment Assistance: Our advocates help with enrollment and reporting for government benefits and services (i.e. Cal-Fresh, unemployment, MediCal, CoveredCA). Our advocates can help you select the best healthcare program for you and your family. Counseling: We partner with professionally pre-licensed clinical counselors to offer free counseling and advocacy to youth, families and individuals. Our services provide support for people to learn and access healthy coping skills, stress management techniques and work on other issues as needed. East West Natural Health Clinic: Together with the East West School of Planetary Herbology, clients have access to community-based natural health clinics on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. Licensed practitioners and volunteers provide health screenings, natural medicines and alternative therapies such as acupuncture. Services are available by appointment only. Emergency Preparedness: We offer Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) trainings twice a year in partnership with local emergency response agencies. Classes are available to teens and adults at no charge and all materials are provided. |
