| Description: | The City Council is composed of four Council Members and the Mayor, all of whom are directly elected by the people. The Mayor and Vice-Mayor are elected annually by the Council and the Council Members serve four-year staggered terms. See website for the current list of council members and their contact information. ELIGIBILITY: Five at-large council members are elected on the first Tuesday in November in even numbered years. | Mission: | The purpose of the City Council is to establish local laws, to set policy, to reject or to approve programs, to allocate funds and provide direction, through the City Manager, to City staff to implement its policy. The Council can also appoint members to various local and regional committees, commissions and other boards. |
| Meetings: | 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, 7pm and try to end by 11:30pm at Council Chambers, 420 Capitola Avenue, Capitola. The public is invited to attend the meetings and to speak on issues on the agenda. |
