| Description: | Every Child Outdoors Foundation is partnered with the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, Outdoor Science School to provide financial support for participating schools in lower income communities. Every Child Outdoors provides grants to Santa Cruz County schools in lower income communities applicable towards the tuition to attend Outdoor Science School. The Outdoor Science School experience provides students with a rare opportunity to be immersed in nature through exploration and inquiry based, hands-on learning. The learning doesn't stop with science and investigation. According to visiting classroom teachers, for many students, a week at outdoor science school is the first time they are away from home and a rare opportunity to practice responsibility for themselves and social skills in a new environment. ELIGIBILITY: Participating school eligibility for grants is determined each year by total percentage of students enrolled in the government free and reduced lunch program. The schools with the highest percentage of students enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program are considered for eligibility. Free and reduced percentages are obtained from the previous school year. |
