Programs that provide for the conservation and protection of wetland areas through the acquisition and preservation of endangered wetlands; incentive programs which encourage voluntary wetlands restoration, enhancement and protection by landowners; educational initiatives; and national, state/provincial and local land use and other regulatory efforts which seek to minimize the destruction, loss or degradation of wetlands through direct drainage, diversion of surface or ground water sources, excavation, filling and/or conversion for agricultural production or development purposes.
