Programs that offer classes or lecture series which teach students to become part of a discerning theater audience by introducing them to the many tasks that are involved in creating a theatrical presentation. Students study the structures, varieties and sources of contemporary drama; review dramatic literature in a performance context through the study of theater history, directing, acting and design; and read classic and contemporary plays from a variety of perspectives, giving them a greater understanding of the process by which theater is created.
