Programs that activate warning systems (sirens or other mechanisms) and/or issue flood watches which alert the public to the possibility of weather conditions conducive to flooding and/or flood warnings which inform the public that flooding is imminent or in progress. Flood advisories cover flash floods, rivers or streams that are in danger of overflowing their banks, dams or levees that are at risk of breaking, and flooding that may result from heavy rain or tidal surges. Flood advisories may include safety instructions for people who are in immediate peril.
