Programs that maintain HTML-based (hypertext markup language) documents, often including graphics and sound as well as text, which are linked to related documents on other servers regardless of where they are stored on the Internet. The links are maintained through URLs (uniform resource locators) which are a standard way of representing the locations of HTML documents. Users can click on a highlighted word or phrase and can skip directly to files that are associated with it.
