The Santa Cruz City Council unanimously voted to approve the design and budget for the remodels of both the Branciforte and Garfield Park branch libraries.
While the original budget for both projects was $4,250,000, the estimates for the renovation designs came in approximately $2 million over that budget.
After reviewing the consequences of reducing the projects to meet the original budget, the Council decided instead to approve the full designs. The council members were very excited about the plans and the future of these libraries for the City of Santa Cruz.
An additional $1.5 million of Measure S funds will be allocated to the Branciforte & Garfield Park projects, and the Friends of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries have agreed to fund raise the additional $500,000. The Friends fundraising is already underway!
