As part of Santa Cruz Public Libraries (SCPL) Outreach, the Jail Reach team provides access to information, education, and community resources through library programs and services to youth and adults who are incarcerated in Santa Cruz County. We provide library account registration, library book lending, and refer reference requests to San Francisco Public Library's jail services team. We also offer People & Stories, a short story workshop, which invites participants to learn more about themselves, others, and the world through discussion of short stories & the issues they raise.

People & Stories is an ongoing Jail Reach program dedicated to opening doors to literature for new audiences, offered to people incarcerated in the Santa Cruz County Jails. Through reading enduring short stories out loud and then discussing them rigorously, we invite participants to find fresh understandings of themselves, of others, and of the world. This program is offered with support from the People & Stories organization. Participants can earn Milestone credits, which may lead to early release and creates a positive relationship between incarcerated people and the library.
